Privilege Project Finance and BioConstruct - Cooperation on new AD Plant in Attleborough
An existing agricultural AD plant with an installed capacity of 1,600 kWel will be refurbished by BioConstruct to improve its operational standards and protect the surrounding environment. In particular, a bund wall will be constructed and all underground pipelines will be replaced by above ground pipes to increase the protection of the ground water and environment. By doing so, the facility will comply with latest standards of the Environmental Agency. Privilege Finance as the plant owner undertakes these measures voluntarily to increase operational safety and future proof the plant operations.
Furthermore, adjacent to the existing Plant, a biomethane production facility will be constructed based on food waste. The new AD plant will produce & upgrade biogas to biomethane quality and will inject app. 1,000 scm/h of upgraded biomethane into the Cadent gas grid.
“We are delighted for the improvements planned at Attleborough AD and look forward to supplying green gas to the 4,000 homes in the local town, for most of the year. After the works will be completed, Eco Verde Energy will be managing and operating the site and will be using our extensive skills and experience to optimise outputs from the plant and to deliver process improvements” comments Chris Waters from Eco Verde Energy (EVE).
“Attleborough AD will be a fantastic example of how a circular economy can be created and function in a local area. The new facility will provide services for the local communities and will generate green gas, digestate for local farmers and promote a circular economy by diverting waste going to landfill. We’re pleased to have funded this plant to contribute to our goals of climate change reduction and look forward to working on this project” adds Marc Graham, Project Development Manager at Privilege Finance.
The new plant will digest approximately 100,000 tons of food waste per annum and turn the energy into valuable biomethane capable of heating roughly 4,000 households. This results in a saving of roughly 15,819 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per annum and contribute to the goal of Net Zero by 2050 set out by the British Government.
In order to reach this goal, a new subsidy scheme is currently under discussion and is expected to be approved by the Parliament in autumn 2021. The so called Green Gas Levy will foster further developments on a moderate level in the United Kingdom until 2025 when the subsidy scheme will run out.
Kai H Roth from BioConstruct adds:” We have gained valuable experience in similar waste-to-energy plants and are excited to be part of the Attleborough project. This project is another important step to strengthen our presence on the AD market in the United Kingdom which we have built over the last couple of years. Due to the ongoing support from the government, we are hopeful that the AD market will remain active in the years to come.”
