Company
Welcome!
Who we are
We are bioconstruct. We are an owner- and family-held business that stands for stability and reliability. This is a principle that we apply in all areas consistently, be it our accounting policies or our stainless-steel screws. In all cases, we work for the benefit of our customers, employees and business partners.
#mission
What we do
Clean water and air, biodiversity, healthy ecosystems and peaceful human coexistence are the most-precious things we have. We seek to contribute a significant part in preserving these.
#vision
Why we do what we do
We firmly believe that by establishing a focus on sustainability we can achieve a harmony between the economy and our environment allowing us not to live at the expense of future generations.
Attitude & values
‘Those who seek joy in their own value must value the world themselves.’
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
#teamspirit
We’re a green team! With a vibrant team spirit, we shape our actions and working environment in a way that gives us joy as we work on our mission. It takes a strong team to develop each one’s personal responsibility.
#equals
We interact with people in an egalitarian way. We don’t have time for vanity, self-importance, arrogance or affectations. We see objective criticism as stimulation to progress our personal development.
#trust
We encourage our employees to act like businesspeople within their business. This involves us putting trust in our people, allowing them a large amount of flexibility in a trust-based working hour system and not using time/attendance systems.
#transparency
We let our employees participate in our business planning and key decisions. We see that transparency works and appreciate what our people give back to us.
#responsibility
There’s no need to be afraid of decisions and it’s better to make a wrong one than none at all. We learn from mistakes and don’t let them happen a second time. We each have personal responsibility individually, and responsibility for each other collectively.
#knowledge
Sharing knowledge allows us to move forward faster. We encourage all of our employees to share their findings and thoughts when they might be useful for others. We put a strong emphasis on training and ongoing courses.
#fun
We value each other, laugh together and respect each person individually just as they are. We celebrate success together and support each other in challenging situations. When it comes to our work, we don’t need to be told to have fun. The fun comes naturally.
#openness
We welcome anyone who approaches us with the same openness that we approach them with. We are curious people, even in unfamiliar situations, and look forward to new experiences.
#health
Health, physical fitness and mental balance are the foundation for doing any work productively. We promote healthy and fresh food, exercise and non-car-based forms of transport.
#sustainability
Our Approach to Responsibility
Sustainability is not just an item on our agenda – it is our business model. Since 2001, we have been building plants that generate clean energy, strengthen regions and conserve resources. We live the ESG criteria of environment, social responsibility and good corporate governance every day – without time clocks.
#environmental
Energy that does the Earth good.
Every biogas plant, every wind turbine and every photovoltaic system that we plan and build replaces fossil energy with clean, decentralised generation. Biogas closes material cycles: residues become electricity, heat and biomethane – and the digestate then fertilises the fields. In addition, we are actively committed to species conservation in our home region, for example in the KLAr Melle project.
#social
People who enjoy coming here.
Our greenteam is our greatest strength. With flexible working hours, flat hierarchies and the biocoinstruct bonus model, we create a working environment where personal responsibility grows. We are also involved in the region: school projects, cultural sponsorship and fundraising initiatives – because our home is close to our hearts.
#governance
Owner-managed. Reliable. Long-term.
As a family-run company, we think not in quarters but in decades. A solid balance sheet policy, transparent decision-making processes and short chains of command create genuine commitment towards customers, partners and employees alike. There is no room for vanity here.

We communicate openly – internally and externally. Our employees participate in corporate planning, and we also explain to our customers and partners how we conduct our business and what goals we set ourselves.
ESG criteria are therefore not an external requirement for us, but rather the natural description of how we act.
We are convinced: economics and ecology need not be a contradiction.

6 quick-fire questions – messaging with the management

Henrik Borgmeyer
Henrik worked in project development at Nordex, a manufacturer of wind energy systems, back when he was studying English and Physics at university. When he was a partner at EEG Energie Expertise GmbH, he prepared assessments of wind and emissions. Henrik founded bioconstruct in 2001 and is now in charge of its project development, financing and operation of the owned plants.

Kai Hubert Roth
Kai holds a degree in business administration. Before joining bioconstruct as Chief Financial Officer, he worked at a listed company that manufactures biogas plants. Thanks to the breadth of his experience, he has been able to extend his sphere of responsibility far beyond finances. For instance, Kai has significant responsibility at bioconstruct for the company’s further internationalisation.

Matthias Kief
Matthias is a trained electrical technician for energy systems and has obtained a great amount of practical experience in agriculture through his side jobs. Matthias founded bioconstruct together with Henrik and another partner. Matthias has been in charge of sales at bioconstruct since the company was founded. Moreover, he is also strongly involved in the technical concept design of its biogas plants.

Johannes Beckering
Johannes first completed vocational training as a bank clerk and then studied sports and economics for teaching, as well as economics leading to a diploma qualification. Before joining bioconstruct, he gained more than ten years of extensive experience in the energy sector. At bioconstruct, Johannes is responsible for project development and the operational management of biogas plants, as well as IT. His particular focus lies on storage, PV, and wind projects.
Question 1
Describe bioconstruct in three vibes.

Henrik Borgmeyer
Special
Personable
Always moving

Kai Hubert Roth
Informal
Approachable
Athletic and flexible

Matthias Kief
High-tech
Solution-focused
Green-machine team

Johannes Beckering
Familial
Active
Committed
Question 2
The biggest energy source that bioconstruct has is …

Henrik Borgmeyer
… its fantastic team: the green team!

Kai Hubert Roth
… its flexibility.

Matthias Kief
… its delivery of answers for the market’s demands.

Johannes Beckering
… our team and our shared determination to drive the energy transition forward. We combine technical expertise, local roots, and the courage to take new paths. This mix of pioneering spirit and down-to-earth attitude is our greatest strength.
Question 3
If I weren’t a manager at bioconstruct, I would probably be …

Henrik Borgmeyer
… a farmer on a country estate in Southern Europe or the minister of trade and economics (can’t decide).

Kai Hubert Roth
… a manager or director at another renewable-energies company. But it’d need to be exactly like ours.

Matthias Kief
… an energy consultant, project developer or something similar in our industry.

Johannes Beckering
… somewhere else where things are also moving forward. I like taking on responsibility, shaping projects as part of a team, and implementing sustainable solutions.
Question 4
Name an experience at bioconstruct that energised you:

Henrik Borgmeyer
Signing the largest contract in our company’s history (for a biogas plant in Hartlepool worth €28 million) in a very fancy high-rise building in London, with more than 25 stakeholders in total!

Kai Hubert Roth
Two words: Imperial Park.

Matthias Kief
Our anniversary: bioconstruct’s 10th birthday.

Johannes Beckering
When I walked through the door on my first day at bioconstruct in my finest outfit and Henrik greeted me barefoot and in shorts, I instantly knew I was in the right place. The first get-together with my colleagues reinforced that feeling. The combination of enthusiasm, ambitious goals, the needed ease, and authenticity in how we treat each other — I experience it again and again, and it still gives me energy today.
Question 5
My favourite place at bioconstruct is …

Henrik Borgmeyer
… my office 🙂
During summer, it gets filled with sunlight early in the morning and looks beautiful.

Kai Hubert Roth
My office.

Matthias Kief
Wherever there’s work 😉

Johannes Beckering
Our lounge area when Juliana has cooked. Surrounded by the wonderful aroma filling the office all morning, sharing a meal with the team, listening, and maybe solving a work-related challenge or two — that’s what gives back so much of the spirit we live together every day.
Question 6
It seems like you have nice offices 😉
Final question: where will bioconstruct be in 10 years’ time?

Henrik Borgmeyer
It’ll still be right at the top – in the Champions League!

Kai Hubert Roth
I’ll sum that up in one word: confidential.

Matthias Kief
And I’ll give you a motto: ‘Energy for the World’.

Johannes Beckering
In 10 years, I see us as an established part of the regional and supraregional energy landscape, with strong projects in biogas, wind, solar, heat, battery storage, and perhaps even hydrogen. We will demonstrate nationally and internationally that a medium-sized company can achieve great things.

bioconstruct helps children in need
bioconstruct helps terre des hommes. For the 50th year of its existence, the German Children’s Fund is calling on people to join in on a donation drive called ‘Wie weit würdest du gehen?!’ (How Far Would You Go?!). It is planning to raise €5 million through challenges that people take on themselves. Individuals, associations and businesses can join in, and we’re part of it! The money is intended to fund schooling for children in need. €60 can send a child to school for one year in developing countries.
terre des hommes is an international children’s aid organisation based in Osnabrück, Germany. A non-profit organisation, it supports over 400 projects for disadvantaged and exploited children worldwide.
By taking advantage of lots of small ideas, campaigns and events, we’re seeking to win our big challenge and achieve our donations target: €10,000 for terre des hommes. This could send 166 disadvantaged children in developing countries to school for one year.
