Welcome!

Who we are

We are bioconstruct. We are an owner- and family-held business that stands for stability and reliability. This is a principle that we apply in all areas consistently, be it our accounting policies or our stainless-steel screws. In all cases, we work for the benefit of our customers, employees and business partners.

#mission

What we do

Clean water and air, biodiversity, healthy ecosystems and peaceful human coexistence are the most-precious things we have. We seek to contribute a significant part in preserving these.

#vision

Why we do what we do

We firmly believe that by establishing a focus on sustainability we can achieve a harmony between the economy and our environment allowing us not to live at the expense of future generations.

Attitude & values

‘Those who seek joy in their own value must value the world themselves.’

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

#teamspirit

We’re a green team! With a vibrant team spirit, we shape our actions and working environment in a way that gives us joy as we work on our mission. It takes a strong team to develop each one’s personal responsibility.

""

#equals

We interact with people in an egalitarian way. We don’t have time for vanity, self-importance, arrogance or affectations. We see objective criticism as stimulation to progress our personal development.

#trust

We encourage our employees to act like businesspeople within their business. This involves us putting trust in our people, allowing them a large amount of flexibility in a trust-based working hour system and not using time/attendance systems.

#transparency

We let our employees participate in our business planning and key decisions. We see that transparency works and appreciate what our people give back to us.

#responsibility

There’s no need to be afraid of decisions and it’s better to make a wrong one than none at all. We learn from mistakes and don’t let them happen a second time. We each have personal responsibility individually, and responsibility for each other collectively.

#knowledge

Sharing knowledge allows us to move forward faster. We encourage all of our employees to share their findings and thoughts when they might be useful for others. We put a strong emphasis on training and ongoing courses.

#fun

We value each other, laugh together and respect each person individually just as they are. We celebrate success together and support each other in challenging situations. When it comes to our work, we don’t need to be told to have fun. The fun comes naturally.

""

#openness

We welcome anyone who approaches us with the same openness that we approach them with. We are curious people, even in unfamiliar situations, and look forward to new experiences.

#health

Health, physical fitness and mental balance are the foundation for doing any work productively. We promote healthy and fresh food, exercise and non-car-based forms of transport.

Our
history

Milestones

The foundation stone was laid: bioconstruct GmbH was founded with construction of the first biogas plant. This was followed by the development and realisation of Region Regenerativ Melle with a total of 6 WTGs, 1 BGA and 2 PV plants.

Founding of bioconstruct GmbH

2001

In 2003, we developed and realised the wind farm Frontheim/Isenstedt with 3 WTGs.

Our 5th wind farm

2003

With our first BioControl, we were able to take an important step towards intelligent biogas plant control.

The birth of our plant control system

2004

The time had come! Our first large-scale biogas project was developed and implemented: The 3-MW biogas plant in Kaarßen was realised with an investment volume of 13 million Euros.

Our first large-scale biogas project

2005

We built the first pure grass fermentation plant in Northern Germany.

Gas from grass

2006

bioconstruct was growing! We now employed more than 50 people in our company. It was time for a new office.

Move to a new office

2007

We built our first biogas plant (6.5-MW plant) abroad, more precisely in Het Haantje in the Netherlands.

Our first project abroad

2009

The Neukammer project with the construction of the first biomethane feed-in plant was on the agenda. Likewise, the construction of the Melle Agricultural Technology Centre with Germany’s first heat-controlled and flexible biogas plant.

Technological quantum leap

2010

With 100 employees, we generated more than 50 million euros for the first time. The financing and turnkey construction of the FonteCupa photovoltaic plant in Italy with an output of 650 kWp was also completed.

The 100th employee

2011

As planned, we also constructed the open-space photovoltaic plant in Salzwedel with an output of 2.1 MWp and achieved a turnover of 83 million euros for the first time.

Record turnover

2011

We financed and operated more than 18 biogas plants in our own portfolio. The experience we had gained in this area was flowing into the construction of new projects.

A mainstay of our own operations

2013

bioconstruct built the Gehrde wind farm with 4 wind turbines of the latest generation reaching a total height of over 200 metres.

Renaissance of wind power

2014

bioconstruct was becoming more and more international: in 2015, we built one of the largest waste processing plants in England, from start until the handover of the keys, with 5 MW el. output.

BGA Teesside

2015

France becomes our customer! We completed our first biogas plant in France and gained entry into one of the most promising markets in Europe.

Market entry into France

2016

We donated over 10,000 euros as part of the campaign “How far would you go” by the children’s charity terre des hommes.

bioconstruct helps

2017

bioconstruct made the largest single investment in the company’s history and invested over 14 million euros in the Magdeburger Börde.

Construction of the biomethane feed-in plant in Vahldorf

2018

For the first time in bioconstruct’s history, the company took over the operational management of plants outside its own construction portfolio.

2019

A step towards free marketing of renewable energies and away from state-regulated subsidies: For the first time, we marketed electricity from our biogas plants as part of a forward transaction (PPA) together with our direct marketing partner NEXT Kraftwerke on the Leipzig Power Exchange, making us one of the pioneers in this field.

Our first PPA

2021

Time for a new design for bioconstruct! We celebrated the new image extensively with our staff.

bioconstruct shines in a new design for its 20th anniversary!

2021

bioconstruct has set itself the goal that every primary school child from the Riemsloh district of Melle (location of our company’s headquarters) visits us at least once. To achieve this, we organise a great day out for the whole school every four years – including a biogas rally, ice cream van and barbecue party. This year is the first anniversary of the excursion, and a great tradition is being established.

6 quick-fire questions – messaging with the management

Henrik Borgmeyer

Henrik worked in project development at Nordex, a manufacturer of wind energy systems, back when he was studying English and Physics at university. When he was a partner at EEG Energie Expertise GmbH, he prepared assessments of wind and emissions. Henrik founded bioconstruct in 2001 and is now in charge of its project development, financing and operation of the owned plants.

Kai Hubert Roth

Kai holds a degree in business administration. Before joining bioconstruct as Chief Financial Officer, he worked at a listed company that manufactures biogas plants. Thanks to the breadth of his experience, he has been able to extend his sphere of responsibility far beyond finances. For instance, Kai has significant responsibility at bioconstruct for the company’s further internationalisation.

Matthias Kief

Matthias is a trained electrical technician for energy systems and has obtained a great amount of practical experience in agriculture through his side jobs. Matthias founded bioconstruct together with Henrik and another partner. Matthias has been in charge of sales at bioconstruct since the company was founded. Moreover, he is also strongly involved in the technical concept design of its biogas plants.

Mehmet Önal

More Information

bioconstruct helps children in need

bioconstruct helps terre des hommes. For the 50th year of its existence, the German Children’s Fund is calling on people to join in on a donation drive called ‘Wie weit würdest du gehen?!’ (How Far Would You Go?!). It is planning to raise €5 million through challenges that people take on themselves. Individuals, associations and businesses can join in, and we’re part of it! The money is intended to fund schooling for children in need. €60 can send a child to school for one year in developing countries.

terre des hommes is an international children’s aid organisation based in Osnabrück, Germany. A non-profit organisation, it supports over 400 projects for disadvantaged and exploited children worldwide.

By taking advantage of lots of small ideas, campaigns and events, we’re seeking to win our big challenge and achieve our donations target: €10,000 for  terre des hommes. This could send 166 disadvantaged children in developing countries to school for one year.
